Keynote Speakers

As part of our conference we have two keynote lunches and presentations. For the first lunch, 2018 SPE President Darcy Spady will be joining us giving us his insights into what is driving SPE this year and the years to come as well as handing out the regional awards to our deserving recipients.

Tuesday, April 25th: Awards and Welcome Lunch with 2018 SPE President Darcy Spadyspady

Darcy Spady is the Managing Director of a subsidiary of Broadview Energy, a small producer in Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada. He has an extensive background in the gas, heavy oil, and conventional oil throughout Western Canada, Atlantic Canada and the Northeast United States.

Spady previously headed up sales for the pressure pumping firm Sanjel, and prior to that had a long history with several entities of Columbia Natural Resources / Triana Energy of Charleston, WV.; including Managing Director of Saint Brendan’s Exploration (Canada) and Carina Natural Resources (Romania), Director of Optimization (USA) and Vice President of Columbia Natural Resources Canada.  Spady has also been CEO of Contact Exploration (Canada & Hungary), and worked a decade with the Schlumberger (wireline and pressure pumping divisions).

An active independent director, Spady chairs the Board of Green Imaging Technologies (MRI core imaging) of Fredericton, Canada and serves as a director of MNP Petroleum, and has previously served on boards of Edge Resources, Contact Exploration, Guildhall Minerals and Poplar Point Exploration.

Spady holds a BSc. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the Provinces of Alberta and New Brunswick, Canada.


Wednesday, April 26th: Keynote Lunch with GE Vice President Scott Raphael

Scott Raphael, VP Product Management – Upstream, GE Oil & Gas Digital

Scott Raphael is responsible for developing the software vision and roadmap for upstream oil & gas as GE partners with customers to optimize their producton systems and the exploitation of their reservoirs. Scott has 22 years industry experience in upstream oil and gas in operators, consulting companies and oilfield service companies. Before joining GE in September 2016, he successfully ran and developed software businesses at Schlumberger, Merrick Systems and P2 Energy Solutions. He is on the SPE Digital Energy Technical Section Board of Directors. Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
